January is Spay/Neuter Month:

  • It is important to spay or neuter your pet.  It promotes good health, reduces potential behavior problems and helps prevent overpopulation!
  • Spaying female dogs and cats reduce their risk of mammary cancer, eliminates the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer, as well as pyometra (an infection of the uterus that can be life threatening).
  • Neutering male dogs and cats reduce their risk of testicular and prostate cancer, reduces aggressive behavior and helps with them wanting to roam for mating purposes.
  • Un-neutered male dogs and cats tend to want to mark indiscriminatley, and their urine is very pungent, making it difficult to remove.
  • Hundreds and thousands of good and deserving dogs and cats are needlessly put to sleep each year because they can't find homes for all of them.
  • At least one out of every four pets brought to the animal shelters around the country are purebred.
